St Lucia Dive and Kayak Customer Reviews
Posted on KikiMVerified Super tour, super guide, good for kayaking beginners too We booked the kayak tour from Marigot Bay to the Roseau River. Due to the bad weather, with high waves, our guide stopped the tour halfway through, which was perfectly fine. Safety first! We were then offered, without discussions, an alternative date as desired, so that we dared a second attempt 4days later, in significantly better weather. Our guide, Jordan, was the same as the first tour. It was a beautiful tour, first across the sea with a detour to the small neighboring bay and then up the Roseau River through the mangroves. Jordan took great care of us and we had a lot of fun! Highly recommended. Also available for kayaking beginners.Posted on turtletangoVerified Amazing excursion This was a highlight of our cruise. The views were amazing, team was friendly and it was a great day on the water! Kayaking through the mangroves was magical.Posted on nigelandcherylVerified Mostly great but some bits not so good!! First the good: the Kayak excursion was really good. Headed out of Marigot Bay, short sea journey to cross a small beach and enter the mangroves and river. Very interesting paddle. Returned and headed back to the dive centre base. About 2 hours or so in the kayaks which was plenty. A great experience and our guide was really attentive, ensured our safety and gave good information. Online booking and payment was straightforward via the DFH website. Now the not so good: communication after booking was non-existant. We needed picking up from a location that was not on the booking form list so we wanted to confirm pick up time. Tried to contact them by phone, email, messenger and website Contact form - all got no response. We had no idea what the plan was! The nearest pick up location on the list stated pick up at 08.30 so we headed out to our requested pick up spot just after 08.00 and lo and behold the taxi arrived for us at about 08.10. The taxi driver was great but we then had to go pick up several people off the cruise ships in Castries so don't be surprised if you're in the taxi for over 2 hours!Overall, our driver was great and our return journey was much easier and quicker. The kayaking was also great fun.Posted on seekingmoreVerified Go! chill...very stress free, lovely scenery and paddled at our pace...fun excursion out of a pretty interesting bay; def worth a tripPosted on The Wanderer Family USAVerified Absolute Must Do in Saint Lucia This adventure is an absolute Must Do for anyone on holiday at Zoëtry Marigot Bay in Saint Lucia. Our wonderful tour guide, Junior, made it a memory of a lifetime. Fancy Nancy and her friend, Michelle, met a Kentucky-based gentleman traveling solo, and the four of us entered the calm warm waters of Marigot Bay and paddled into the open Caribbean Sea. We kayaked along the mighty Saint Lucian cliffs, past a blowhole and many ginormous ships, until we encountered a small sandy cove beach and the entrance to Roseau River.Mastering a sea kayak landing, over a sandbar into the Roseau River, we were greeted with a back-in-time Gilligan’s Island-style mode of transportation. Little did we know, traveling back in time brought us upon a glorious smooth-as-glass, petal-ridden arch within the Mangrove trees.Exiting the Mangrove tunnel, we came upon a local plantation, so we decided to take a stretch and sampled freshly picked exotic fruit to include starfruit, guava, coconut water, petite bananas, almonds, tamarin figs, and, of course, coconut rum. The Wonderer even bought a straw basket (some folks call it a hat).We were educated about the Molasses Pipeline. In St Lucia, molasses is pumped through a half-mile pipeline along the Roseau River. Barges carrying molasses pull up to the concrete jetty hooking up to the pipeline that runs underground to the island's largest rum factory. It was about time to head home, so we asked to kayak over the sandbar and challenge the oncoming waves of the great blue sea. We began paddling like baby ducks all in a row, up and over the swelling waves, maneuvering the whirling incoming tide. Well, all but one of us made it over the crest. One kayak went tumbling, along with her cotton dress, new basket hat and … mobile phone. Remember The Wanderer’s List? Rule Number 1 (Keep Phone Safe) -- epic fail.Ohhhh, what to do?! Oh Me, Oh My, the phone at the bottom of the sea. Would this bring the trip to a screeching halt -- the mother of all downers? Well, The Wanderess and Junior, with the help of Coconut Man’s snorkel, combed the sea and all of a sudden … “Who’s Da Man? Who Is It?, Who’s Da Man! Junior found the phone, 15 feet from the shoreline, on the bottom of the sea. Whew! And, yes, the phone still works.Great times. We booked the Marigot Bay to Roseau River Kayaking Tour. The description how to get there and where to park was great and our guide Vanessa was already waiting for us, when we arrived. We were the only two guests, so we had the chance to enjoy a very special trip. Our guide Vanessa was supercool, funny and told us lots of interesting things about life in St. Lucia. We had perfect weather and there were hardly any other tourists. We can totally recommend this trip and hopefully you will be lucky to get Vanessa as your guide.Posted on Jacob AVerified Great experience Kayaking on the ocean and then into the mangroves was awesome, great guide, would recommend this 10/10Posted on KarenVerified BEST DAY EVER! This kayak adventure was the highlight of our excursions on our most recent trip to St.Lucia! We made the reservation online through the DFH website and their communication of details was excellent. We were picked up at our hotel promptly at 8:45 am and driven to Marigot Bay. The kayaks were in excellent condition and happened to be the exact same brand as we have at home! Our guide, Glen, was wonderful. He was very knowledgable of the area and excouraged us to take our time and enjoy every moment. You could tell that he held a genuine appreciation for the beauty of the unique areas that we journeyed through. We began with a leisurely paddle around picturesque Marigot Bay, then went out to sea where we stayed close to the coastline to avoid any big waves. We brought to kayaks into a beach where we had a quick swim to cool us down, then headed inland. The Mangrove Lagoon leg of the trip was absolutely spectacular! So unique and quiet and beautiful- only the sounds of birds and our paddles in the water. From there we headed down the Roseau River, passing by steep cliffs and a variety of farmlands, all kinds of waterfowl and more birds! It was a little more than a half day of low impact exercise, fresh air and sunshine, and tranquil sight seeing that we will never forget. Such great value! Thank you DFH!Posted on BenedictVerified A bit of Caribbean chaos accompanied by fun I booked this trip as an alternative version to seeing the coastline of St Lucia by boat.My fellow tourists ranged from experienced kayakers on white water to those that paddled the lakes on their tandem kayaks. My cousin and I were no less experienced, although certainly less frequently on the kayaking scene. We were picked up / dropped off from the nearest Rodney Bay resort (as I live in an apartment). Pick up was smooth, drop off was a two stage operation where we got dropped at a hotel part way and then picked up again by a different car/driver to finish the journey off. From a tourist perspective my cousin summarised:Crazy driving (be prepared for hairpin turns on hilly roads), lack of communication between the guides on the water and the tourists - the tour was billed to include coastal kayak, mangrove/lagoon kayak and river kayak, but when we returned to the sand bar having not done the river part, I questioned this and was told that the guides did not know whether the tourists were tired and needed to save their strength for the coastal return trip (approximately 20 minutes into wind). I asked all participants if they knew they had the option of paddling up river, and none did. They had all followed the guide to the sandbar as the guide had not asked them how they were feeling re stamina. It was only due to my questioning that the group had the opportunity to paddle upstream, and even then we weren't able to go very far (I assume due to timing).Sea launches: a little chaotic, usually because the guides were being over helpful, which often meant it was harder to launch than it could have been.Return to Marigot Bay was more of a slog, if only because there were a number of rain showers that had to be endured, and felt more like the weather in Cornwall rather than the typical Caribbean climate. All that aside, it was an enjoyable trip, mostly because of the company of our other tourists on the water, rather than the relative organisation/communication of the guides and tour operators.I would recommend the trip, as it was good fun, with the proviso that it may not always go according to plan. Not necessarily what you see on the tin.A food stop or option for lunch after the trip (2hrs) with a later pick-up/collection may be something to add into the mix.My driver offered me local rates (as I'm on the island for a longer period of time), but other than the initial pick up (where we also dropped his daughter off at her Saturday school as a diversion), I did not see him again within the day.Posted on Neil BVerified Fab trip Went on mangrove kayaking trip today with the lovely Vanessa as our guide. She took us through the mangroves and to a tiny beach to snorkel. Great day kayaking and made extra enjoyable by Vanessa, s intoxicating laugh. Thank you. Highly recommend this activity even if you have never kayaked before.
